1/ CELINE DION GREW UP IN A VERY LARGE FAMILY
One thing to know is that Celine Dion is the youngest of a family of 14 children. Her father Adhémar was a butcher and her mother Thérèse (née Tanguay) was a housewife. Music was an important part of the Dion family, and Celine Dion is said to have been named after the song Celine by French singer Hugues Aufray.
2/ CELINE DION WON THE EUROVISION SONG CONTEST – FOR SWITZERLAND
In 1988, Celine Dion won the famous Eurovision Song Contest, propelling her to international stardom. But she didn't win the prize for Canada, but for Switzerland. (The original song was written by Swiss composer Atilla ÅžereftuÄŸ and singer-songwriter Nella Martinetti.) In the presentation video, Dion is seen riding heavy farm machinery before singing Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi.
3/ CELINE DION DIDN'T LIKE HER BIGGEST HIT
As huge as My Heart Will Go On has become, Dion admits that the first time she heard the song, she didn't like it, and she was concerned about recording yet another soundtrack theme. Cameron was also opposed to the idea of ending his film with a pop song.
The song was written by composer James Horner (who would later die in a plane crash) and lyricist Will Jennings, and Dion recorded the vocals in one take.
4/ SHE MARRIED HER MANAGER
One thing to know is that Celine Dion and her manager René Angélil got engaged in 1991, but initially kept their romantic relationship a secret; the singer eventually shared the news in the liner notes of her 1994 hit album, The Colour of My Love.
Dion and Angélil, then 26 and 52, married later that year in a lavish ceremony at Montreal's Notre-Dame Basilica; Dion has called it "the ceremony of my dreams, what I had always hoped for. It was magical."
After Angélil died of cancer in 2016, her highly publicized funeral was also held at Montreal's Notre-Dame Basilica.
