FIND OUT IF NON NEGOTIABLE IS BASED ON TRUE EVENTS ON NETFLIX!

Non Negotiable is available on Netflix! If you want to know if Non Negotiable is based on a true story , read on! Comedies and thrillers are two genres that rarely mix, and some great examples from the last decade are The Menu (2022), A Simple Favor (2018), and, of course, Parasite (2019).

When paired together, comedy-thrillers can be some of the most intense yet entertaining movies to watch, and Netflix's latest Mexican film, Non Negotiable, might just be one to watch.

Directed by Juan Taratuto, Non Negotiable follows the journey of hostage negotiator Alan Bender as he faces one of the biggest challenges of his life and career so far. In this review, we’ll dive a little deeper into his story and see if Non Negotiable is inspired by a true story or not!

IS NON NEGOTIABLE INSPIRED BY A TRUE STORY?

Non Negotiable is not based on a true story ! It is a fictional crime story with a touch of comedy, and none of the events that take place in the film are related to any real event. No Mexican president has ever been kidnapped in this way. There was a minor case in 2010, when a former Mexican presidential candidate was kidnapped while driving near his ranch.

However, he was released by the kidnappers and did not press charges, stating that he had forgiven his captors. The entire situation was resolved peacefully and the situation never escalated to the point of requiring the services of a hostage negotiator.

The characters in the film are entirely invented by the writers and were built in a way that served the plot of the film while getting the message across.

Although it is wrapped in a thrilling premise, the purpose of the story is to highlight the growing public discord and show the endless hypocrisy of politicians who promise to change the world before they are elected, but then become like every other politician once they are in power.

Although the film doesn't use any real-life characters to play the kidnapper, the filmmakers make a point of portraying Vincente as a highly relatable character.

The audience can relate to him because his disagreement with the president and the government is fueled by the things that almost everyone criticizes their own government for. For the explanation of the ending, read this.

In short, although the film and its characters are entirely fictional, the directors have tried to make the audience identify with the characters, which gives more weight to their actions. Non Négociable is not inspired by a true story !
