GET DISCOVER THE EXPLANATION OF THE END OF SEASON 2 OF THE RESPONDER! SPOILERS!

The Responder is now available on BBC! If you want to know the explanation for the end of Season 2, read on! The BBC's gripping thriller The Responder is back for a thrilling second season, which sees police officer Chris Carson plunged into increasingly serious trouble as he tries to keep his fractured family together.

The first season introduced us to night shift worker Chris and his then partner Rachel Hargreaves as they attempted to solve a cocaine heist that left local addict Casey in mortal danger.

We find the characters in a worrying state when we return for the second season, with Chris estranged from his wife Kate, and Rachel struggling to rebuild her life after surviving domestic violence.

Meanwhile, Casey has failed to kick her destructive ways, posing a threat to herself and her ex-boyfriend Marco, who is trying to get back on track. If you have any questions, here's The Responder Season 2 ending explained !

THE RESPONDER SEASON 2 ENDING EXPLAINED!

At the end of Season 2 of The Responder , Franny's menacing henchmen emerge from the darkness to grab Casey and eventually force Chris into the back of a van with her - driving them to a second, anonymous, isolated location, where Franny and Jodie await.

But, ultimately, Jodie doesn't want Casey to die if she has to do it herself. Franny tries to coerce her into hitting the moaning Casey with a hammer, but Jodie backs away.

At the end of The Responder Season 2 , Franny, who has turned into a full-blown sociopath by this point in the proceedings, begins playing with the hammer, which has the side effect of hitting Chris in the face with it. The standoff ends with Franny making a vague and ominous threat to a bloodied Chris that their relationship must remain on good terms.

Casey makes it out alive. It's a real shock given how the episode started and how Jodie unleashes every nefarious character Liverpool has to offer on her – including, apparently, Damien. At the end of The Responder Season 2 , we see that Casey isn't quite ready to leave Liverpool to start anew with Marco and the baby in Runcorn.

But Chris is ready. He gives Rachel her badge and gives her some sage advice about continuing to work, before texting Kate to wish her luck in London. Perhaps it's her quest for the truth or his advice, but Rachel also decides to take action and expose Steve's domestic abuse. To find out when season 3 is coming out, read here.

As The Responder Season 2 comes to a close , and with it, another season of The Responder has come and gone. And Chris seems to have finally found peace. Good for him, but it might not be the optimal stage for a third season unless the show undergoes a major tonal shift.
